Thursday, 1 June 2023, 15:00 Seminar; 18:00 Concert
Location: Franciscan Church (entry to convent), Franziskanerplatz 1, 1010 Vienna
This event – conceived in connection with the FWF project being carried out at the Department of Musicology, University of Vienna, by Jeremy Llewellyn – is devoted to the Global Middle Ages and comprises two parts: an interdisciplinary seminar and a concluding concert with the award-winning Ensemble Peregrina. The 13th and early 14th centuries were marked out by increasing mobility across Eurasia, with a range of different actors: from Mongols establishing their rule across different khanates to Franciscan brothers acting as emissaries and missionaries in different cultures. The purpose of the seminar is to examine this mobility – methodologically, historically and culturally – with special attention given the role of Franciscan songs and their transformations.
Participants: Prof. Dr. Claudia Rapp (Vienna), Prof. Dr. Felix Heinzer (Hamburg), Dr. Roman Hautala (Oulu)
Organiser : Dr. Jeremy Llewellyn (Vienna)
If you are interested in attending the seminar, please write before 30 May 2023 to jeremy.llewellyn@univie.ac.at
With many thanks to P. Oliver Ruggenthaler OFM and the community for their support.
